"The Book of Sounds"
Written and illustrated by Vladimir Zimakov
Hand printed in 2004
When I was little I heard a story about a kid who associated a letter M with warm milk. And back then this made perfect sence, as opposed to the traditional teachings that letters stand for certain words just because the word happen to start with that particular letter.
How does a kid visualize letters and sounds? I chose to rely on my own memories and intoution in creating this book. What does a letter feel like? What color is it? What events can be associated with that letter or sound? Based on those questions I have created a series of illustrations using linocuts and letterpress.
